Le Pommier Wine Estate Stellenbosch: A Must-Visit Wine Farm

Exploring Stellenbosch: A Wine Lover’s Dream at Le Pommier Wine Estate

Good morning, wine enthusiasts! This past Saturday, Angelique and I embarked on our journey through the third district of the famous Stellenbosch Wine Route. As we set out to explore, we discovered that Stellenbosch is home to over 200 wine farms – and the five we selected turned out to be spread across three different directions! But that only added to the excitement of the adventure.

If you’re new to my wine journeys, I encourage you to check out my previous blogs about South Africa’s top wine farms. I’ve visited many estates across the region, offering great insights into the best spots for wine lovers. You can find my previous blog posts here.

Our first stop was Le Pommier Wine Estate, nestled in the breathtaking mountains of Stellenbosch. This stunning estate not only offers magnificent views but also provides an unforgettable wine tasting experience. We were fortunate to sit down with Randall, a member of the team who has been working at Le Pommier for three months. His insights into the estate and its wines were truly enlightening.

A Rich History at Le Pommier Wine Estate
Le Pommier Wine Estate, established in 1916, originally operated as a fruit farm, predominantly growing apples. In 2014, Melanie Van Schalkwyk and her husband acquired the farm and have since transformed it into the beautiful wine estate it is today. In 2019, they also took ownership of Le Pommier Wine Estate. Together, these estates reflect the family’s commitment to producing world-class wines and offering exceptional hospitality.

A Unique Wine Tasting Experience
Le Pommier Wine Estate offers much more than just incredible wines. Their restaurant is a favorite in the region, known for its delicious coffee and intimate dining options. Whether you’re looking for a cozy, private dining experience in one of the smaller rooms or need a larger space for events, Le Pommier has it covered. For those wishing to stay overnight, the estate provides a variety of accommodation options, including six luxurious suites perched at the top of the farm. In addition, there are two self-catering units (a spacious family unit and a cozy couple’s unit) as well as seven charming country rooms adjacent to the restaurant and wine tasting room. Whether you’re visiting for a day or an extended stay, Le Pommier is an ideal getaway for wine enthusiasts and anyone looking to relax.

We enjoyed our interview in the wine tasting room, which features both indoor and outdoor seating options. Opting for the outdoor seating, we basked in a magnificent view of the mountains, the sparkling swimming pool, and unique tables made from old wine barrels. It was a truly delightful setting for a memorable experience.
