Dornier Wine Estate: Serene Wine Tasting in Stellenbosch
Good morning, wine enthusiasts! Today, I’m excited to share our visit to Dornier Wine Estate, a historic farm situated in the stunning mountains of Stellenbosch. Founded in 1713 as part of the Rustenburg farm, Dornier boasts heritage buildings that are known as Ou Kaapse Geboue. The estate’s beauty is truly a sight to behold, offering breathtaking views that blend seamlessly with the natural surroundings. If you missed my previous visit to Le Pommier Wine Estate in Stellenbosch, make sure to check it out for another unique wine-tasting experience!
A Rich History and Ownership Journey
In 1995, Christopher Dornier purchased the farm, which was then a Pruyn farm, and transformed it into a renowned wine estate. Later, Rafael took over the property, before selling it to Jan Rupert in 2020. After the sale, Rafael returned to Switzerland. Today, the estate is managed by brothers JP and Jacques, who continue to uphold its legacy.
Dornier wines are available internationally, with exports to Europe via Capreo. In South Africa, you can conveniently order online at Dornier’s website, and they’ll deliver to your doorstep anywhere across the country. If you’re in Stellenbosch, you can also find Dornier wines at TOPS.
A Peaceful Wine-Tasting Experience
Dornier offers a calm, welcoming atmosphere in their wine-tasting room, making it the perfect spot for anyone seeking peace, quiet, and relaxation. If you’re a wine lover keen on exploring the estate’s rich history, you can join a Cellar Tour available daily from 09:00 to 16:00.
Recently, Dornier introduced their famous bagel platters which pair wonderfully with their wines. For example, the Caprese Bagel (R70) and the Gourmet Bagel (R110) make for excellent choices, providing a delightful culinary experience alongside your wine tasting.
