Reflecting on 2024 Changes: A Year of Growth and New Beginnings
Good morning, everyone! As we approach the final day of 2024, I want to take a moment to reflect on 2024 changes and how it has been a year of growth, challenges, and new opportunities for my family and me. What a year it’s been—full of change, growth, and exciting new beginnings!
A Year of Change
2024 marked a significant shift in my life. After serving 33 years with the South African Police Service, I made the bold decision to resign and embark on a new adventure. My family and I had planned to move abroad, but our plans were halted unexpectedly when my little girl’s father refused to sign the permission letter for her to travel. It was a challenge, but we acted swiftly to adapt.
Instead of letting this setback hold us back, I decided to finally pursue my dream of becoming a blogger—a goal I had been nurturing for the past eight years. I launched my website and began sharing my experiences, offering restaurant reviews and insights from my travels. Although my site is only three months old and still in its growth phase, I am proud to say that I am officially a blogger. Reflecting on 2024 changes, I am determined to grow this platform into something truly remarkable.
Exploring South Africa’s Best: The Journey Continues
This year, we spent five months exploring South Africa, staying in various Airbnb accommodations and soaking in the beauty of the country. During this time, I gathered content for my blog and created the Eat and Sleep Wine Routes. But this is just the beginning. In 2025, I’ll continue to explore more wine routes, offering honest reviews of South Africa’s finest wines for my readers around the world. While I’ve been fortunate to experience many exciting adventures, 2024 also had its challenges. I had a minor accident that resulted in a knee injury, and I’ll likely need surgery in 2025. However, despite this setback, my determination remains unshaken.
Road Trips and Ghost Walks: Unforgettable Experiences
One of the highlights of this year was a memorable road trip with Angelique. We drove from Pretoria back to Cape Town, taking a two-day journey through South Africa’s scenic countryside. Along the way, we stopped in the charming town of Hanover, where I marveled at the antique shops and vintage furniture. It was a delightful experience, although Angelique wasn’t too fond of it, joking that the place was haunted!
Our travels also led us to Simons Town in the Western Cape, where we took part in a thrilling ghost walk. It was a blend of history and mystery, especially when we visited the graveyard at 9 pm. Although it was a bit spooky, the experience was both educational and exciting. I can’t wait to share more of these adventures with you in the coming year.
Looking Ahead: What’s in Store for 2025
As we bid farewell to 2024, we are excited about what 2025 holds. Jeandrè will launch his own blogging site, and our other business ventures also need some attention. One of the most exciting projects is the opening of our deli—a dream come true for me. But this won’t be just any deli; it’s going to offer something unique. And there’s still another surprise on the horizon—stay tuned!
Despite all the changes and challenges, I believe 2025 will be a year of growth and productivity. We might even revisit our original plans from earlier this year—only time will tell. Whatever happens, we will face it with faith and gratitude.
