A Winter’s Day in Worcester: History, Heritage, and Hospitality
This past Saturday, we took a short trip to Worcester in the Western Cape. Although we expected a cathedral—mistaking it for Worcester, England—we ended up having a meaningful experience at the Worcester Museum Western Cape.
First Stop: Worcester Museum Western Cape
Since we were already in town, we decided to visit the Worcester Museum Western Cape, and what a surprise it turned out to be. On arrival, we were advised to begin with the indoor exhibits before exploring the outdoor displays.
The museum gave us a clear view of how people once lived and worked in the region. Antique furniture, stagecoaches, post chaises, and industrial knitting machines filled the rooms. It’s safe to say the Worcester Museum Western Cape offers more than just a quick stop—it’s an immersive cultural experience.

Stepping Back in Time at Slow Living Café
After soaking up all that history, we needed something warm—and that led us to Slow Living Café. The moment we stepped inside, it felt like entering another era. The entire space was decorated in a 1600s style, down to the antique dinner sets used for serving food.
I ordered my usual cappuccino with a toasted chicken mayo sandwich and fries, while Angelique had a brownie and sparkling water. As we sat there, I noticed something unusual—Angelique had gone quiet. She kept saying she wanted to go, and that’s when I realized she wasn’t feeling well.
The Drive Home Through the Du Toits Kloof Pass
With the rain coming down and temperatures dropping, we made our way home. Angelique slept for most of the 80 km journey—a rare thing for her. On the way, I made a quick 30-second stop to film a beautiful church and later paused at the top of the Du Toits Kloof Pass for another short video. I stayed in the car since the rain was pouring.
Once home, it became clear Angelique was more than just tired—she had a fever. By Sunday, we had to visit the doctor. Unfortunately, she’s now in bed and missing her first day of exams. Still, we’re grateful for the quality time we had, even if it ended a bit earlier than planned.
