A Weekend Visit to Imhoff Farm Animal Farm
This past weekend, we spent a lovely day at Imhoff Farm Animal Farm, a family-friendly destination that surprised us in the best way.
First Impressions and a Warm Welcome
When we arrived, we expected a typical farm experience. Instead, we found a beautifully transformed space with restored farm buildings now serving as a vibrant farmstall and market. The area offers fresh farm-style food, a cozy breakfast spot, and a few charming little shops. Each one has its own personality, making the visit more than just a stop to see animals.
Feeding Time and Friendly Faces
Before heading straight to the animals, we stopped by the food stall to buy tins of animal feed. It’s a great way to interact more personally with the animals, and children especially enjoy it.
We began with the horse — a friendly one who immediately came over when he spotted us by the fence. Not too big, not too small, just the right size for a child to feel confident around. He clearly knew we had food, and he wasn’t shy about asking for it.
Meeting the Farm Animals
Next, we continued through the enclosures, where we saw emus, ducks, geese, and turkeys. Chickens also roamed freely, all eager for a snack. The atmosphere felt relaxed and welcoming, and feeding these animals gave us plenty of laughs.
Then came the boerbokke — local goats with no direct English equivalent. Despite being well-fed, they were as demanding as ever. They rushed toward us, clearly expecting their share of treats. Their personalities are lively, and they definitely keep you on your toes.
Bunny Time: Angelique’s Favorite Moment
A major highlight was visiting the bunny section. Angelique sat down on the ground, and immediately, the bunnies came over, curious and hopeful for a treat. Even though she didn’t have food right away, she gave them attention and gentle pets.
Later, when it was feeding time, she shared food with them and enjoyed their company. The bunnies didn’t run away or hide — they seemed to enjoy human interaction. Though visitors aren’t allowed to pick them up, petting and sitting with them created a calming experience.
A Second Round and a Beautiful View
Before we wrapped up our animal visit, we made another loop around Imhoff Farm Animal Farm, giving food to the horse, ducks, goats, and bunnies again. While Angelique played, I took a moment to enjoy the scenic view over Noordhoek Beach, Kommetjie, and the surrounding areas. Even in cold, rainy weather, the scenery felt peaceful and refreshing.
Coffee, Cake, and Final Thoughts
Once we finished our tour, we headed into the small shops for a quick browse. I found an antique store that caught my interest — definitely a reason to return someday.
We then sat down for a warm drink and a bite to eat. Angelique enjoyed a cream soda and a slice of chocolate cake, which she rated a full 10 out of 10. I had a latte with eggs and toast. The meal was delicious, scoring a solid 9 from me.
However, the service left a little to be desired. It took some time to get a staff member’s attention, and check-ins were minimal. That said, the team was friendly and polite when they did engage.
The atmosphere at the farmstall café felt cozy and homey — almost like being in a real farmhouse kitchen.
Looking Ahead
As we left, I reminded Angelique that June will be a themed month for our blog. We’re also considering a trip to Pretoria at the end of the month, so keep an eye out for more updates soon. If you missed our previous adventures, you can catch up on them here.
