Good afternoon, everyone! This weekend, we took a trip to Exotic Animals Klapmuts for a short escape from the daily rush. It was a peaceful hour surrounded by nature, fresh air, and the unique sounds of the animals. While our visit had its ups and downs, it still offered moments of pure relaxation.
First Impressions and Overall Experience
When we arrived at Exotic Animals Klapmuts, the calm atmosphere immediately stood out. The gentle stream, the calls of the birds, and the playful movements of the lemurs and monkeys created a soothing environment. Unfortunately, some neglect was noticeable. A few areas looked worn, and the variety of animals was smaller than advertised. For that reason, I would rate the overall visit 6 out of 10.
Meeting the Feathered Residents
We began our visit with the Parrots and Cockatoos. These colourful characters were lively and talkative, making for a fun start. Moving on to the Lemurs, we found them either huddled together in groups or playfully chasing each other. This section was lively and engaging, especially for animal lovers.
The Walk-Through Area
In the walk-through area, where animals roam freely, guinea pigs, doves, and parrots moved about calmly. This space truly felt peaceful, offering a moment to pause and take in the surroundings. Nearby, we found a very small aquarium holding a handful of interesting fish. While it was tiny, it still added a little extra variety to the visit.
Other Exhibits and Garden Potential
Next came the spider and snake enclosures. Sadly, there wasn’t much to see, and some parts of the gardens appeared unmaintained. With better care, the gardens could become a true highlight — perhaps even a fairytale-like attraction. Most of the animals on-site were parrots and doves, and while they were clearly well-fed and looked after, the absence of butterflies and other animals from earlier days was noticeable.
The Restaurant – A Pleasant Surprise
One of the best parts of Exotic Animals Klapmuts was the restaurant. The service was quick and friendly, and the food was genuinely good. I would give the restaurant 7 out of 10. It’s worth stopping for a meal, even if you aren’t spending the whole day at the venue.
Final Thoughts
Despite the shortcomings, we still enjoyed our time at Exotic Animals Klapmuts. It has the potential to become a major attraction if more animals are added and the gardens are maintained. It wasn’t a waste of time, but it did fall a little short of expectations.
